  3. There are some intrinsic factors that regulate the growth and development of plants, these are called plant hormones or “Phytohormone

Role of plant hormones: .

  1. Plant hormones regulate many aspects of plant growth and development.
  2. The plant hormone primarily regulates stem elongation.
  3. Plant hormones are chemical compounds present in very low concentrations in plants.
  4. Plant hormones are derivatives of indole (auxins), terpenes (Gibberellins), adenine (Cytokinin), carotenoids (Abscisic acid), and gases (Ethylene).
  5. They may act synergistically or individually. The roles of different hormones can be complementary or antagonistic.
  6. Role of hormones is in the processes like vernalization, phototropism, seed germination, dormancy, etc.
  7. Plant hormones control all the growth and development activities like cell division, enlargement, flowering, seed formation, dormancy, and abscission.
  8. Based on their action, plant hormones are categorized into two categories: Plant Growth Promoters- Auxins, gibberellins, and cytokinin, Plant Growth Inhibitors- Abscisic Acid
