What is the shortest phase of a cell cycle?
Definition of the cell cycle:
1. The cell cycle refers to the series of events that take place in a cell, resulting in the duplication of DNA and division of cytoplasm and organelles to produce two daughter cells.
2. The shortest phase of a cell cycle is:
(i) M phase is considered the shortest phase in the cell cycle.
4. The different stages or phases of the cell cycle are-
(i) G1 phase, S phase, G2 phase, and M phase.
(ii) The total time duration of a cell cycle is for 24 hours.
(iii) Among these, the G1 phase is of about 11 hours,
(iv) The S phase is of about 7 hours,
(v) The G2 phase is of about 4 hours and the M phase is of 2 hours.
(vi) Therefore, the M phase is called the shortest phase of the cell cycle.
