The correct option is A Nsm−2
Coefficient of viscosity
Coefficient of viscosity is defined as the tangential force required to maintain a unit velocity gradient between two parallel layers of liquid of unit area.
We have;
f=η×A×dv/dx
Where, f= Tangential force
A= Area
η= Viscosity coefficient
dv/dx= Velocity gradient
Here, we are finding the unit of viscosity coefficient.
So, η=f/(A×(dv/dx))
η=(f×dx)/(A×dv)
∵ The unit of f,A,dx (distance), and dv (velocity) are N,m2,m and ms−1 respectively.
∴η=N×mm2×ms−1
⇒η=Nsm−2
Hence, the unit of viscosity coefficient is Nsm−2.
