Regions of Fallopian tube
Oviduct or the fallopian tubes comprises of three regions:
● Infundibulum
● Ampulla
● Isthmus
The infundibulum has finger like projections called fimbriae which helps in collecting the ovum during ovulation. Ampulla is the widest part of the oviduct. The isthmus is narrow, it follows the ampulla and joins with the uterus.
Significance of ampulla
Fertilization (fusion of egg and sperm) takes place at ampulla of the female reproductive tract.
