Open in App
Solution

G0 is the phase of the cell cycle, often termed the resting phase i.e in this phase the cell is arrested and does not proceed further for cell division.

Significance of G0 phase:

  • G0 phase maintains a specific number of cells in the organism so that uncontrolled growth does not occur.
  • It decreases the probability of a cell turning cancerous as any cell that functions abnormally move back to the G0 phase of the cell cycle. During this phase, the repair mechanism sets in for the normal functioning of the cell.
