Question

What is the significance of Henry’s Law constant KH?

Open in App
Solution

Henry's law states that "the partial pressure of the gas in the vapour phase (P) is proportional to the mole fraction (X) of the gas in the solution.”

Mathematically, at constant temperature:

P=KHX

where KH is Henry's Law constant.

From the equation, we can deduce that:

KH=PX

The higher the value of KH at a given pressure, the lower is the solubility of the gas in the liquid.
