India lies between 8 degree 4' N to 37 degree 6' N latitude. This is mostly in the tropical zone, although the northern part of the country lies in the temperate zone. Due to the latitudinal extent, India enjoys relatively mild climate. Most of India is insulated from extreme cold weather. The hot weather also lasts mostly for about three months. Due to such favourable climate, India can grow crops for most of the year which makes it an agriculturally rich country. In fact, this is the reason why historically, India has been more prosperous than most other countries in the world.
India lies between 68 degree 7' E to 97 degree 25' E longitude , which is near the centre of the eastern hemisphere. Historically, most of human civilization has been in the eastern hemisphere. India's central location in that hemisphere has enabled it to trade to different parts of the eastern hemisphere.
