What is the significance of tissues in multi-cellular organisms?
Tissues are a specialized group of cells
Tissues carry out specific functions very efficiently
Tissues impart the advantage of division of labour
Organisms become more complex and can utilize the environment much better due to tissues
In multi-cellular organisms, different types of tissues perform different functions. Since a particular group of cells carries out only one particular function, they do it very efficiently. So, multi-cellular organisms possess a definite division of labour. Due to this great property, organisms evolved and became more complex in order to adapt to the changing environment in a better way. Thus, tissues also have an evolutionary significance.
