Solution
Vernalization:
It is an artificial mechanism of exposure of plants to low temperatures to escalate flowering and seed production.
Site of vernalization includes apical meristem or all the meristematic cells, e.g., shoot tip, embryo tips, root apex, etc.
As a result of vernalization, a flowering hormone called vernalin is formed.
Vernalization in biennials can induce early flowering and fruit setting.
Vernalization tend to increase yield, cold resistance to the plants as well as resistance to the fungal infections.
Cabbages, carrots, and sugar beets are some examples of biennial plants that undergoes vernalization.
