Stapedius is the smallest muscle present on the wall of the tympanic cavity of the middle ear.
It is less than 1 millimeter in diameter.
It controls the excessive vibrations and protects the internal ear from loud voices.
Its job is to support the smallest bone in the body, called the stapes, which is part of the middle ear and helps in conducting vibrations to the inner ear.
The stapedius muscle is innervated which receives nerve input by the seventh cranial nerve from the brain.
