What is the sound level for normal conversation?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The loudness of sound is measured in decibels (dB).
  2. The decibel was taken as the unit of loudness, in honour of Alexander Graham Bell, the scientist who invented the telephone.
  3. The minimum loudness of sound audible at a frequency of 1 kHz is considered to be the zero level of sound i.e., 0dB.
  4. When loudness is increased 10 times, 100 times, or1000 times, the level of sound is said to be 10dB,20dB,30dB.
  5. Thus, the sound level for normal conversation is 50dB.
