Somatotropin or growth hormone is secreted from the anterior pituitary. It stimulates body growth in following manners -

• Causes an increase in the length of bones
• Stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regeneration.

The hypothalamus produces another hormone somatostatin that stops the secretion of growth hormone. In this way, excess secretion of growth hormone is checked.
