Question

What is the source of the kinetic energy of the falling rain drops ?

Open in App
Solution

Rain drops falling from the clouds possess kinetic energy solely due to the existence of acceleration due to gravity. As the distance between rain drops and earth surface decreases, its velocity increases and thus kinetic energy increases. The Kinetic energy as well as the velocity of the rain drops will be maximum just before hitting the ground.
