Question

What is the sum of the length of intercepts made by the line joining the points (4,5) and (1,2) with x and y axis.

Open in App
Solution

Equation of a line passing through two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is
yy1=y2y1x2x1(xx1)

so the equation of the given line passing through (4,5) and (1,2) is
y5=2514(x4)
y5=x4
xy=1

Convert the above equation into the intercept form of line xa+yb=1

That is,

x1+y1=1

So, the sum of length of the intercepts on the axis is =1+1=2
