Solution

Ion:

(1)Ion may be defined as an atom or group of atoms which carries positive or negative charge.

(2)Ions carrying positive charge are called cations while those carrying negative charge are called anions.

(3)Aluminium has atomic number 13 therefore, electronic configuration of Aluminium is (2,8,3).

(4)Aluminium is a metal.Hence,it will lose three of it's valence electrons in order to achieve nearest inert gas configuration.

(5)The number of electrons lost by aluminium is 3 therefore, aluminium's valency is 3.

Hence, the symbol of aluminium ion is Al3+.
