Question

What is symplastic pathway?

Open in App
Solution

Symplast pathway:

  1. The symplast, which is positioned on the inner side of the plasma membrane, allows water and low-molecular-weight solutes to enter freely.
  2. Symplast cells have a large number of nuclei.
  3. Because water reaches the cytoplasm of the cell all the way through the plasma membrane, the symplastic pathway should cross cell membranes.
  4. Because it passes through the cell membrane, the symplastic pathway is also known as the transmembrane pathway.
  5. Cytoplasmic streaming aids the transport of water in the symplastic pathway.
