Solution

Isotonic solutions:

  1. Osmotic pressure refers to the least amount of pressure required for preventing the backflow of osmosis through a semipermeable membrane.
  2. When solutions have equal osmotic pressure, they are referred to as Isotonic solutions.
  3. Isotonic solutions, when separated through a semipermeable membrane, do not allow the transfer of solutes among themselves.
  4. When a living cell is placed in an isotonic solution, it will neither shrink nor become turgid.
  5. Example: Normal saline water.
