Question

What is the total flux through the face of the cube with side of the length A if a charge Q is placed at: 1) A: a corner of the cube 2) B: mid point of the edge of the cube 3) C: center of the face of the cube 4) D: mid point of B and C

Solution

1) When charge Q is placed at one corner of the cube , by applying Gauss's law of flux, there is no flux passing through the face .2) Even if the charge Q is placed at the mid point B of the edge , there is no flux passing through the face because no charge is enclosed by the cube.3) When charge Q is placed at the centre C of the cube then flux passing through the one face of the cube =φ6=E×A2. Here length of the side of cube is A.4) WHEN THE CHARGE IS PLACED at the mid point of B and C, in this case the charge comes inside the cube ,therefore flux passing through one face =ϕ6=E×A2.
