What is the "U" shaped, short upper part of the small intestine called?
Duodenum
The duodenum is the short upper "U" shaped part of the small intestine which continues from the stomach. It is the first and shortest segment of the small intestine. It receives partially digested food (known as chyme) from the stomach and plays a vital role in the chemical digestion of chyme in preparation for absorption in the small intestine. Duodenum receives secretion from both the liver and the pancreas.
