Solution

Chromosomal unit:

  1. The unit of the chromosome is the gene.
  2. A gene is a DNA segment that carries information from parents to children and determines the heredity characters in the offspring.
  3. DNA, which carries information in the form of genes, is a lengthy chain of paired chemical units (nucleotides) that can take one of four main forms.
  4. A small portion of the DNA located in the nucleus is found in the mitochondria and chloroplasts.
  5. The smallest component of a chromosome is a nucleosome.
  6. To create this structure, histone proteins are wrapped around DNA.
  7. It is 10 nanometers in diameter.
  8. DNA is coiled around an eight-protein core called a histone.
  9. Each nucleosome contains about 200 bp of DNA.
  10. Two nucleosomes are connected by linker DNA.
  11. Nucleosomes then compress to form chromatin fibers, which further compress to create chromosomes.
