Question

What is the unit of magnetic intensity?

Open in App
Solution

Determine the unit of magnetic intensity.

Magnetic Intensity:

  1. Once a magnet is placed in a magnetic field, its magnetic moment changes.
  2. Magnetization Intensity is defined as the change in the magnetic moment per unit volume.

A formula for Magnetisation Intensity is as follows:
I=MV

Magnetic moment, M=mx

Volume,V=Ax

I=mxAx=mA

where,

  • m = pole strength.
  • A = area of cross-section.
  • x = length of the magnet.
  • I = intensity of magnetization.

Hence, Tesla is the SI unit of magnetic field strength.
