Question

What is the unit of potential difference?

Open in App
Solution

Determine the unit of potential difference.

  1. The quantity of effort done in transporting a unit charge from one location to another is known as potential difference.
  2. A supply's potential difference (or voltage) is a measurement of such energy delivered to charged carriers inside a circuit.
  3. Whenever a coulomb charge at any location has high potential energy, the point has a high electric potential.
  4. Therefore, if a coulomb charge at a place has low potential energy, which point has a low electric potential.
  5. This electrical potential difference is the difference in electric potential between the two places.

Mathematical representation:

dv=dwdq

1Volt=1JouleCoulomb

Hence, the unit of potential difference is volt.
