Question

What is the use and purpose of a resistor in a electrical circuit?

Open in App
Solution

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors
are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other uses.

Series connection of resistors reduces the voltage not the current. Assume the internal resistance of an appliance is r. Thus I (current flowing through it) =VR
Hence reducing the current, since it has significantly reduced the potential difference across its points.
