Question

What is the use of MMC undergoing meiosis, why cant it undergo mitosis?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

MMC does not undergo meiosis twice. Megaspores are result of one meiotic division only. Meiotic division takes place in two stages. In first stage the homologous chromosomes separate and then during second stage sister chromatids separate. As a result from each cell four spores are produced. One megaspore becomes functional while other degenerate.
