When a cell placed in hypertonic solution, due to exosmosis protoplasm shrinks away from the cell wall, this process is known as plasmolysis.
Plasmolysis resulting in gaps between the cell wall and cell membrane.
Utility of plamolysis :
It is vital phenomenon that explains the osmosis.
It also demonstrate the nature of cell membrane and cell wall as cell membrane is semipermeable and cell wall is permeable.
It can helps in detection of cell whether it is live or dead, because in dead cells plasmolysis does not takes place.
It is used for preservation of food stuffs like meat, fishes, jellies etc from fungal and bacterial infection, by adding salt in food.Bactria and any other microbes get plasmolysed or killed due to exosmosis.
It is also involved in killing of weeds in lawns by chemical weedicides.
It also prevents the growth of plants in the cracks of the walls by adding salt.
