Question

What is the value of sin1(sin2π3)?

Open in App
Solution

Let y=sin1(sin2π3)

siny=sin2π3

siny=sin(120o)

But range of principal value of sin1 is [π2,π2]

i.e., [90o,90o]

Hence y=120o is not possible

Now,
siny=sin120o

siny=sin(180o60o)

siny=sin60o [sin(180θ)=sinθ]

siny=sin(60×π/180)

siny=sinπ/3

Hence y=π/3

Which is the range of principal value of sin1 i.e., [π/2.π/2]

Hence,
sin1(sin2π/3)=y=π3.
