What is the value of x in the equation
2x+4=10?
3
Given 2x+4=10
We want all variables on one side and all constants on the other
So we shall keep x on the left-hand side and shift the 4 to the right-hand side.
When a number is shifted from one side of the equation to another, the sign changes.
Thus, 2x=10−4.
2x=6
Now the variable x is multiplied with 2. Hence we take that 2 to the right hand side.
x=62
Or x=3
The equation can also be solved this way
We have 2x+4=10
We shall subtract 4 on both sides, because the number on the left hand side apart from the variable is 4
2x+4−4=10−4
2x=6
Now, we shall divide both sides by 2, since the variable is multiplied by 2 on the left hand side
2x2=62
x=3
