Question

What is the variation in valency of the elements along a period?

Open in App
Solution

The number of valence electrons in a period increases thus valency increases from +1 to +4, then goes from -3 to a noble element which has a valency of zero. For example, in period 2: lithium has valency +1 to carbon +4 and nitrogen -3 to fluorine -1 to neon which is a noble element.
