Open in App
Solution

Warburg Effect:

  1. A transition from aerobic metabolism to anaerobic is observed inside the tumour cells. This is called the Warburg Effect.
  2. To support growth, survival, proliferation, and long-term maintenance, cancer cells rearrange their metabolism.
  3. Increased glucose absorption and lactate production are prominent characteristics of this altered metabolism.
  4. Tumor growth causes them to outgrow the capacity of the nearby blood supply.
  5. Cancerous cells shift away from oxidative metabolism and heavily rely on anaerobic glycolysis to combat inadequate tissue perfusion and oxygenation.
