Question

What is the weight of a body of mass 12 kg? What is the force acting on it?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given,

Mass = 12 kg.

Step 2: To find the value of the weight of the body

  1. Weight of a body is defined as the force with which a body is attracted or pulled towards the center of the earth.
  2. For a freely falling body of mass, ‘m’ in kg, the force of gravity F in newton acting on it is given by:

F = m × g = 12×10=120N

Hence, the weight of the body is 120 N and the force acting on the body is also 120 N.
