Open in App
Solution

Work done:

  1. When a force act on the body and the body is also displaced in the direction of the force then the work is said to be done.
  2. It can be positive, negative, or zero.
    1. When the displacement is in the direction of force then the work is positive.
    2. When the displacement is in the opposite direction of force then work is negative.
    3. When the displacement is zero or the displacement is in a direction perpendicular to the direction of force then the work is zero.

Work done by the Earth in moving around the Sun.

  1. The Earth moves around the Sun on the circular path where the direction of the force is towards the Sun and the direction of the displacement of the Earth is towards the tangent so in this case, the force is perpendicular to the displacement.
  2. The work done by the Earth in moving around the Sun is zero.
