Question

What is the work of HCL in our stomach ?

Open in App
Solution

Gastric juice is secreted by the inner lining of the stomach. It is highly acidic and contains water, hydrochloric acid ( HCL ) and pepsin. Hydrochloric acid serves two functions- It kills any germs which may have entered along with food and it converts pepsinogen to pepsin. Pepsin digests protein into peptides.
