A body is said to be in motion if it changes its position with time with respect to its surroundings.
Different objects undergo different types of motion.
Motion can be categorised into different forms, one of which is translatory motion.
Translatory motion:
It is also termed as linear motion.
A body is said to be in translatory motion if it moves in a line in such a way that its every part moves through the same distance in the same interval of time.
There are two types of translatory motion.
Translatory motion is of two types:
a) Rectilinear motion:
If a body moves along a straight line its motion is called rectilinear motion.
Examples; an automobile(bicycle, car, bus and scooter etc.) moving on a straight road or a ball falling from a height.
b) Curvilinear motion:
An object is said to be in curvilinear motion if it moves along a curved or circular path.
Examples; the motion of a train along a curved track and the motion of a discus in the discus throw.
