Transport of oxygen

Oxygen is transported throughout the body in two forms:

Oxygen bound to haemoglobin in red blood corpuscles (RBC)

Dissolved form in the plasma

While most of the oxygen (about97%) is transported in the form of oxyhaemoglobin, the rest 3% gets dissolved in the plasma.

Transport of carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide is transported throughout the body in three forms:

Bicarbonates (70%)

Carbaminohemoglobin- About 23% of the carbon dioxide is transported by haemoglobin in the blood.

Dissolved form in the plasma (7%)
