Urethra:

  1. Urethra is a thin, tube-like structure that arises from the urinary bladder. In humans, the length of the urethra differs in males and females.
  2. In males, it is about 20 cm long and in females, it is only 4 cm in length.

Function:

  1. The urethra acts as a passage to expel urine from the urinary bladder to the outside of the body.
  2. The male urethra carries both urine and semen whereas the female urethra carries only urine.
