Question

What is variation of valency in periodic table

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Valency is the combining capacity of an element.
On moving from left to right across a period, the valency first increases and then decreases. With respect to hydrogen, the valency increases from 1 to 4 and then falls to 1, whereas the valency of elements with respect to oxygen increases from 1 to 7.

However, the valency of an element remains same down the group.
