A fraction has a numerator and a denominator.

If in the fraction the numerator is smaller than the denominator, say 4/5, then it is a proper fraction.

If in the fraction the numerator is larger than the denominator, say 5/3, then it is an improper or vulgar fraction.

A vulgar fraction can be converted into a mixed fraction like 5/3 is 1+(2/3)
