Capturing or collecting the rain water on the rooftops and finally storing it underground for future use is known as rainwater harvesting. Rainwater harvesting helps in raising the level of underground water. It helps in providing water for drinking and irrigation purposes and also reduces overloading of sewage treatment plants. Rain is the primary source of water and it is this water only which gets collected in rivers and lakes and thus should be conserved for further use.
