Water harvesting:

The practice of filling small water bodies or replenishing groundwater by capturing, collecting, and storing rainwater.

Khadins, tanks, and Nadis in Rajasthan:

  1. They are traditional rainwater harvesting methods.
  2. Earthen embankments called 'bund' are made across the lower edge of the sloping farmlands.
  3. When rainwater flows down the slopes, it is stored in the ‘bunds’ to make a reservoir.
  4. Pathways dug behind the ‘Bund’ fills the nearby well by seeping water into it.

Ponds in the Kandi belt of Jammu:

  1. In the Kandi belt of Jammu, ponds are the traditional method of water harvesting.
  2. Ponds are made to collect the runoff and use it for mankind.
