Zeatin:

Zeatin is a type of cytokinin.

  1. Cytokinins (CK) are the class of plant growth substances (phytohormones) that promote cell division, or cytokinesis, in plant roots & shoots.
  2. There are 2 types of cytokinins: adenine-type cytokinins represented by kinetin, zeatin, and 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), & phenylurea-type cytokinins like diphenylurea and thidiazuron (TDZ).
  3. Functions of Zeatin:
    1. Promotes growth of lateral bud.
    2. Promotes cell division & apical dominance.
