Crops which are grown on elevated areas are termed as the ‘upland crops’.
Turmeric, banana, and yam are grown in the uplands. These are sown with the arrival of rains and harvested in February-March.
Highlands are suitable for growing vegetables like brinjal, ladyfinger, ivy gourd, ridge guard, and cabbage. These are later sold in Vuyyuru Rythu bazaar which is around 7 km from Penamakuru Village.
On the banks of River Krishna and upland areas of the village have fruit-bearing trees and orchards of guava, sapota, and papaya. As soil near the river contains more sand, it retains less moisture which makes it suitable for growing fruit-bearing trees. Hence, crops like paddy do not grow well on sandy soils.
