what kind of differences existed among the people of India at the eve of independence

First of all there was wide spread economic differences among people . The British rule had impoverished the farmers , artisans , craftsmen so much that they were drowned into utter poverty . Mineral , agricultural and many other resources in India were considerably depleted . Zamindars and other patrons of the British were well off while a section of Indians faced utter poverty . Also untouchability , racism , community differences , caste differences existed among the citizens of India . Cultural differences , educational backwardness , differences on the basis of religion also existed . Hindu-Muslim riots were frequent .
