Solution

Germination of seed:

1. The sprouting of a seed, spore, or other parts, after a period of dormancy, is called germination of seed.

2. There are two types of germination in plants i.e:

  • Epigeal germination: In epigeal germination, the growth of cotyledons or embryonic leaves takes place below the soil.
  • Example: Castor, Sunflower, etc.
  • Hypogeal germination: in epigeal germination. the growth of cotyledons or embryonic leaves takes place above the soil.
  • Example: Chickpeas(channa), Groundnut, etc.
  • Thus, Hypogeal germination is seen in chickpeas(channa).
