What kind of mixture is air ? Give reasons.

Air is a homogeneous mixture of the gaseous substances nitrogen, oxygen, and smaller amounts of other substances.A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the components can be seen, as there are two or more phases present.


Air is a mixture and not a compound because of following reasons: Air can be separated into its constituents such as oxygen, nitrogen etc. by fractional distillation of liquid air. Air shows the properties of all the gases present in it. For example: Air supports combustion because of oxygen present in air.
