  • Essential nutrients are those which cannot be synthesized by the body, and therefore they must be obtained from the food that is ingested. There are two essential fatty acids (EFAs). They are alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid, and linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid.
