Question

What magnet is stronger than Neodymium?

Open in App
Solution

Neodymium:

  • Neodymium is a rare earth magnet.
  • Iron Nitride (Fe16N2), which is produced by combining Iron (Fe) and Nitrogen (N) is considered a stronger magnet than Neodymium (Nd2Fe14B).
  • Iron Nitride is a very strong permanent magnet that does not require any rare-earth elements, such as neodymium.
  • The theoretical magnetic energy product for Iron nitride is more than twice the maximum magnet energy product for a rare-earth neodymium magnet.
  • The cost of iron and nitrogen used in the making of Iron Nitride is much cheaper than rare earth magnets.

Hence, the Iron Nitride magnet is stronger than Neodymium.
