Question

What makes them float?

Open in App
Solution

  • Like all plants, aquatic plants also have cortex made up of parenchyma. But unlike terrestrial plants, they have hollow spaces.
  • These spaces are called as air cavities which help in maintaining buoyancy of the plant.
  • Some of the aquatic plants also have special structures like air bladders which also helps them in floating.
  • Also, the plants have a waxy coating which doesn't allow water to stay on the surface hence it decreases the weight on plant and helps it to float.
