Question

What mass of sodium chloride would be decomposed by 9.8 g of sulphuric acid, if 12g of soidum bisulphate and 2.75 g of hydrogen chloride were produced in a reaction, assuming that the law of conservation of mass is true.
NaCl + H2SO4NaHSO4 + 2HCl

Solution

NaCl+H2SO4NaHSO4+2HCl

Moles of H2SO4=9.598=0.1 moles

Moles of NaHSO4=12120=0.1 moles

1 mole of NaCl reacts with 1 mole H2SO4 to give 1 mole NaHSO4.

So, 0.1 mole of NaCl have reacted
Mass of NaCl reacted =0.1×58=5.85 gm
