What moves the food in the digestive organs ?
Peristalsis is a radially symmetrical and alternating contraction and relaxation of muscles which pushes the food down the muscular tube.
Smooth muscles controlled by the nerves of the autonomic nervous system. These muscles rhythmically squeeze the intestinal and colon contents and move food like you might squeeze toothpaste out of a tube. This is called peristalsis.
Food movement begins from the mouth itself.
Mouth- This is where the tongue and the muscle movement of buccal cavity help in transportation of food
Food pipe- This is where the muscles which surround the food pipe contract and relax to push the food downwards
Stomach- This is where the muscles of stomach only relax and contract to move the food downwards.
