Fight or flight response
An experience that is thought to be stressful or frightening triggers the fight or flight response, an involuntary physiological response.
The body's sympathetic nervous system is triggered by the quick release of hormones in reaction to severe stress.
The release of catecholamines is then triggered by the sympathetic nervous system stimulating the adrenal glands (including adrenaline and noradrenaline).
The hypothalamus triggers the sympathetic nervous system after receiving a distress signal from the amygdala by communicating with the adrenal glands via the autonomic nervous system.
Epinephrine, often known as adrenaline, is released into the bloodstream by these glands as a response.
